That will be the greatest blessing that can bereceived by any messenger; and it is predestined, foreordained by God, for the Angel of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the blessing that the apostles John and his brother Jacob or James wanted to conquer when they came to Jesus Christ and brought some help: they brought their mother to help, the mother of James and John came with them; because that is a very good strategy for children and also for mothers: to help their children so that they can obtain God’s greatest blessings for the time in which they are living. And they knew that if Rebekah* helped Jacob receive the Birthright Blessing, then their mother (the mother of James and John) could help them receive this blessing: to sit, one on the right hand and the other on the left hand of Christ in His Kingdom; but she wasn’t able to obtain that blessing for her sons; and her sons James and John weren’t able to obtain that blessing either, because God has everything ordained in the Divine Program.
And what they were asking for was not difficult—it was impossible for them. They always sought to be like Moses and Elijah.Remember when they wanted to make fire come down from heaven upon some Samaritans who did not receive Christ, when Christ wanted to go into one of the cities of Samaria? And they said: “Do You want us to command fire to comedown from heaven, as the Prophet Elijah did, and burn them, destroy them all?”7 Christ told them: “You don’t know what manner of spirit you are of.”On another occasion, they also, notice, they tried to… Here they also tried to obtain that position; and well, they wanted to be like Moses and Elijah. And that is not a bad thing (to want to be like these great and important men in the Divine Program), but obtaining those ministries of Moses and Elijah was not for that time; therefore, since they lived at that time, they were not able to obtain that blessing.**Now, that blessing was already foreordained, predestined by God, as Christ says. Let’s see the story here.Saint Matthew chapter 20, verses 20 to 23, says:“Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s childrenwith her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.And he said unto her,
What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom,” (she was hardly asking for anything).“But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what yeask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.”When a person is seeking God’s blessing, he can never say: “I can’t.” He must always say that he can, in other words, he must positively confess what he is seeking. And they said: “We are able.”“And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with,” (in other words, Christ told them that they would be able), “but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine 7 Luke 9:54-55to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.”Now, to sit on the right hand and on the left in the Kingdom of Christ was not for Christ to give to John and James but, “to them for whom it is prepared of My Father.”
